The positioning of the patient for the scanning will not be described in the text, but is discernible from the sketches with the marks of the beam position for the standard sections.
All standard sections are taken on the right side of the body.
After the description of normal nerve anatomy, the chapters are augmented by additional images and nor- mal values (where available) and a selection of pathological findings.
By convention, measurement of the cross sectional area (CSA) requires strict perpendicular scanning of the nerve which will otherwise be overestimated. Measurement of the CSA includes all nerve tissue inside the epineurium which is identified by its hyperechogenic reflection.
