Exiting the pelvis in the gluteal region the sciatic nerve is accessible to ultrasound examination. Especially in obese patients the nerve may lie deep in its proximal course, which make it more difficult to identify. Palpation of anatomical structures and identification of leading structures helps find the nerve in the given standard sections. Starting from the standard sections help tracking the nerve in its entire course.
